The Society, formed in 1978, is associated with the Federation of Family History Societies and is commonly referred to as EoLFHS.

The East of London Family History Society currently comprises more than 3,500 people from all over the world who share a common interest in furthering family history and genealogical research in the historic area to the east of the City of London, England.

We focus on a wide variety of aspects of life in the area during the 17th, 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Society has no central offices, telephones or paid staff and all services are provided by volunteers.

Articles published in “Cockney Ancestor” are generally contributed by members but we do publish articles from non members if the Editorial committee feel they are of significant interest.
